Kate Hampton

Manager

Hi, I am Kate the Manager here at Home-Start having started my journey with the scheme over 15 years ago – so I know it well! Today I manage the day to day running of the service, with help from our fantastic, professional staff team. I report directly to the Board of Trustee’s and work closely with our Chair of Trustees to oversee effective operations, governance, finances and strategic planning.

When I am not at work you’ll most likely find me at home on our farm in my wellies where spend as much time as I can with my flat coated retrievers.

Beccie McHugh

Family Engagement Worker

Hi I’m Becci.  I started my journey with Home-start 6 years ago as a volunteer and then moved into the role as a Family Engagement Worker in January 2023.

I  run the Lunch ‘N’ Play group at The Salvation Army and Maryhill Children’s Centre, where the children enjoy a healthy slow cooker meal.

I also run our Parent-to-Parent group where we enjoy a nice cuppa and do some fun activities allowing the adults to have some wind down time and enjoying other parents company.

In the school holidays I run a group for the children to enjoy some fun activities and games and often making something ‘messy’ to take home with them.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my son, often going to the cinema, long walks and day trips.

I have been a part of the troupe world since I was 18 months old, spending most of my Sundays in competitions.

To wind day at the end of the day, I always enjoy reading a good book

Sophie Roberts

Family Support Worker

Hello, I’m Sophie. I started working for Home-Start in 2023 as a family support worker. This was my first job back after being a stay at home mum for 3 years. Before that my background has been working in schools and nurseries. I spend my days doing home visits to support families or working 1:1 with children in schools.
When I’m not working you will find me running around after my crazy 3 children. One of which who has SEN needs so I am used to hospital appointments, meltdowns, sensory needs and much more. To help me relax when the children are finally in bed I am likely to be lost in a book. As a family we love to spend time outdoors so we are often at the park or going on walks.

Sam Hinks

Family Services Co-ordinator

Hi I’m Sam and I am the Family Services Coordinator here at Home-Start Newcastle Borough. I have worked for the scheme for over 4 years now, starting my journey as a Family Support Worker before moving into the Volunteer Coordinator role in June 2020. Starting a new position during the pandemic was not easy, but it has been amazing to watch us as a scheme develop and change how we work to meet the needs of the families in a more flexible approach. I work full time, Monday-Friday and spend time working from home and in the office and this allows me to be flexible for families and volunteers. I support and manage a fantastic cohort of volunteers who in turn provide much needed support to families who need a little helping hand.

Outside of work, you will find me at home with my 3 children, 2 cats and our dog (who many of you may have heard about!) it can be very chaotic but there is always a lot of fun. We will go out for long walks with the dog and take him to visit his family – who live with our Office Coordinator Kate. I am often running my children around to their hobbies, as well as renovating our new house, so I have little time to relax at the moment , but when I  do  get some time to relax , I enjoy some wine time with a good  book and glass of wine
